Tumeric-Ginger-Coconut beverage

  • 1 large "thumb" fresh tumeric, grated
  • 1 large "thumb" fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 fresh cinnamon stick
  • 1 T green cardamom pods, crushed
  • 1 tsp black peppercorns, crushed
Bring everything to a simmer for a while, strain. Add more sweetener or a pinch of salt to taste. Would be good as well with cow's milk, and can stand up to a shot of espresso for a true "golden latte". A pinch of cayenne wouldn't hurt.

Recipe Story:

This is a favorite breakfast beverage or afternoon treat in cool weather. Probably related to the "golden latte", which was a thing for a while--we first had them in Melbourne, Australia.
